How to fight anxiety in sports

There are several ways that you are going to be able to fight anxiety when you are playing sports. I know sometimes when we have a big competition, tournament or you have a big challenge in life it’s normal most of the time you will feel a lot of anxiety sometimes. Today I’m going to show you how you can overcome that.

 

Feeling nervous

The first way is to make sure that you are able to recognize all of the nervousness that you might have before the event. It is better if you are able to accept the nervous energy that you are feeling. It is a common misinterpretation that this is fear instead of just nerves. It is normal to feel an adrenaline rush because it is the body’s way of preparing for the sports event that you are about to compete in.

 

 

Prepare

The second way to help with anxiety during sports is to prepare yourself, physically and mentally for the event. This means that you will need to get to the event in plenty of time. This is going to help with your nerves because you are not going to feel rushed. When you are rushed, it is going to increase the amount of stress that you have. It is also a good idea to do some stretching. This is one of the best ways that you are going to be able to have a lot less stress about the sporting event that might have some anxiety about.

 

 

Visualize

The third way to help with anxiety during sports is to make sure that you are able to visualize what you are about to do. This is something that you are going to need to be able to do a few minutes before the event is supposed to happen. This means that you are going to be prepared on how to do everything right. You will be able to take a breathe and close your eyes so you can see yourself performing well. Therefore, you are going to be able to change your attitude.

 

 

Focus

The fourth way is to focus on what you are supposed to be doing instead of the outcome of the event. This is the best way you are going to be able to stay present at the moment so you are not thinking too much ahead of the event. If you find that you are having negative thoughts about the event, then you need to stop and make sure that you are focusing on your breathing. This is going to allow you to pull yourself back into the present instead of the things in the future.

 

 

Smile

The fifth way to avoid anxiety during sports events is to force yourself to smile. This is going to help you to break the cycle of the negative thoughts that you might be having about the event. Even if this is just for a few seconds before the event. It is a simple action that is going to change your attitude about what is going to happen in the event. This is all that you are going to need in order to relax so that you can focus on your performance that you are going to need to have for the sporting events.

 

 

Outcome

The sixth way to avoid anxiety during sports events is to act like you don’t care what the outcome of the sporting event is. Most of the time, if you end up thinking a bunch of negative thoughts and expecting the worst thing to happen, then you are going to have a hard time performing at your best. By not worrying about the outcome, you will be able to relax and enjoy the event a lot better. It is important to remember that this is not the most important thing that is going on in your life.

 

 

Dismiss

The seventh way to combat your anxiety during the sports event is to make sure that you have acknowledged some of the things that affect your performance and then quickly dismiss them. If you focus on the negative parts of the event, then it is not going to help you to improve in the future. It is better to focus on the times that you did things right instead of the negative things. This is when you are going to need to think about some of the things that you can practice that are going to help you to improve at your next sporting event.

 

 

Program

The last way is to come up with a training program that is going to be similar to the sporting event that you play. Most of the time, you will also be able to find these types of programs among your team or at a club. If you are always doing your training alone, then it might be a good idea to consider finding a group to join. You can also talk to your coach to see if they can help you with something that you might be having problems with.

 

With all these tips and advice you should be able to overcome the fear and the anxiety every time you’re about to start a competition or a big challenge in sports. Remember to stay calm, take control and manage the situation. Practice it over and over again. Practice makes perfect.
